Summer Road Leagues - final report

Booth’s League

Frankly, not a vintage year team results-wise, but the men’s team re-claimed some pride by finishing in 3rd place at the final fixture at Shipley Cricket Club. The women’s team were 9th, and the club 7th in the combined table on the night. Over the five race series, the men were placed 7th and the women 9th, with the club 7th in the combined table (out of twelve clubs). In mitigation of this disappointing final position, the Booth’s league has grown in quality in the last four to five years. Rival clubs have developed strong squads, with success in this league high on their agenda.

Individually, the picture was not as bleak, with Val Lindsey & Dave Riley claiming 1st spots in the VL65 & VM60 categories respectively, whilst I also managed a similar feat as a VM55. Also placed were Jane Hudson (2nd VL50) & Cath Rowe (3rd VL55). Unfortunately, with Louis Booth running a tight ship financially, Neither Jane nor Cath will receive an award for their great efforts.

Notts AAA Road League

With the Booth’s League mainly a Derbyshire affair, LERC had a better time in the Nottinghamshire AAA road league. This league has always been a very high standard and extremely popular and competitive. Most County AAA‘s do not have such a successful summer league, or even have one at all.

The final league table is composed of those who have completed all five races, and the six club members who did so, along with their final position are below:

Karen Levers - 35th
Val Lindsey - 42nd ( VL65 gold medal)
Pat Allen - 46th (VL65 bronze medal)
Rob Fox - 18th
Dave Riley - 40th (VM60 gold medal)
Christian Wingate - 53rd

Team-wise, the final race at Teversal was a good night. The women’s senior team were 4th, with the men’s team 5th. The men’s vets team were 3rd, which was more than enough for them to consolidate their series 3rd place, and bronze medals for the ten who contributed at least one scoring finish. Over the series, the senior men’s team was placed 8th.
