Cross Country round-up

With one Winter League race to go (The Weston 5 mile road race - 8th March) the final positions will soon be decided. Also, all league cross country races have been completed and a quick round up reveals a worrying trend. Over the 13 races of the North Mids, Booths & East Mids leagues, we averaged less than 10 men and 3 women respectively. For a club with 170+ members, surely those numbers ought to be higher?

This generally low turnout has reflected in a poor overall return of final league and individual placings. Only the Booths league positions are worthy of a mention. The Men were 4th overall, contributing to a combined (Men & Women) finish of 7th, out of the 12 clubs. Mark Boots equal 5th Senior Man was the only individual placing, with even the usually trusty Vets contingent failing to feature.

Our lack of numbers even failed to secure the normally guaranteed East Mids Vets A (or at least B) title. The only ray of light in that league was Andy Peats magnificent 1st place at Trent Meadows.

In the middle of that lot, we competed in the Midlands Counties Cross Country Champs at Wollaton Park, we achieved a creditable 28th position in the Mens Senior Team category. Not far off the desired top 25.

Finally, we did stage two of the races, over the best course around Trent Meadows yet, both races generously complimented by virtually all who ran, and the number of our own members running was up on the average for the season.
