Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire County Track & Field Champs
This year's event was again held at Notts AC's Harvey Hadden track, with Moorways track, Derby being temporarily out of action.
Despite the current popularity of track training at LERC, only Rich Wilkinson and myself entered respective county competitions, both attempting to improve on last year's effort. In Rich's case, a faster time and to go one medal colour better than the V50 silver in the Notts race. The signs were good with one Andy Wetherill (Redhill RR) opting for the 1500m. In my case, and in the same race, just to finish would be an improvement on 2012, but with rival Russ Parkin (Derby AC) in top form.
On a surprisingly warm day, and a large field of 24 of various age categories, we both raced well, each being just a few seconds down on our target times. I was 2nd V50 for Derbyshire in 10.03, with Russ posting a superb sub-10 9.57.
Rich, with miles (& miles) of fells still in legs from numerous recent long distance exploits got round in 10.46, but 1st V50 for Nottinghamshire, and a county gold medal.
