Booth Decorators' Summer League Race 1

It really felt like summer running was here at last, as 27 LERCers descended on the trails of Teversal on Tuesday night for the first Booth Decorators’ summer league race of 2013. With barely a hat or pair of gloves in sight, the relatively warm temperatures meant that vests and shorts were out in force, although runners soon realised that conditions were not necessarily entirely benign as the wind began to bluster, making an already challenging course even more difficult in places.

The 4.9 mile route was, for those able to see straight through the exertion of running uphill, scenic, taking in fine views of the Nottinghamshire countryside from the highest point in the county. It also proved a happy hunting ground for LERC, as the team got off to a flying start in the competition with both the men’s and women’s teams notching 2nd places in their categories and finishing 1st in the combined scoring table.

There were also some fine individual performances on the night, with runners using the race as part of their marathon build ups, as training sessions or as all out efforts. Andy Peat, using the race as part of a fartlek session, was, as is customary these days, first home for the club in 3rd place, while Rod Harris, 5th overall, was the 2nd M40 runner. Dave Riley got off to a flying start and maintained his effort to finish as the first placed M55, while Rob Fox and Rich Wilkinson were 2nd and 3rd in the M50 category. Pete Fowles was 3rd M65 runner.

For the women, the Sarahs, Harris and Terry, were the first two to finish for LERC, with Sarah H 2nd woman overall, despite feeling under the weather. Two Caths also had a good night, with Cath Rowe finishing as 1st F55, and Cath Benson taking 2nd F45.

The highly enjoyable league programme resumes on May 15th, with a race at Shipley Cricket Club, and LERC will hope for similar conditions and a similar team outcome.

Foxontherun wrote; Not forgetting that after the race at Shipley CC, there will be the Winter League presentations. No fewer than 8 (that's EIGHT) LERC members are to be presented with individual category awards. Also, there will be the Mens 2nd team, and Women's 1st team trophies, as well as the Combined Team Trophy. It will be held at Ilkeston Rugby Club, so please try to be there to collect and/or cheer on other club members.
