Olympic Torch comes to Long Eaton

Just two days after the end of the London 2012, Long Eaton experienced its own taste of Olympic fever on Tuesday, as members of Long Eaton Running Club welcomed an Olympic torch to West Park Leisure Centre. David Denton, one of the torch bearers from the Buxton leg of the hugely popular Olympic Torch Relay, brought along his torch so that members, friends, family and local residents could take the opportunity to have their photograph taken with a small piece of history in Olympic year.

Proceeds raised from the photos and a cake sale went to David Denton's charity, IDEAS, an organisation founded to provide educational opportunities and medical care for children in South India. The charity is currently raising money to build a school and all funds raised from the evening, as well as a raffle for torch itself, will contribute to its construction.
