Underwood 10k

The Marathon madness that has overcome LERC continues, with all eyes on the Milton Keynes and Manchester marathons this weekend (Captain Shaun Burton and Duncan Gedge swam their way through the adverse conditions in MK, while Rachael Hemsley and Kathy Crockford did likewise in Manchester), yet the club also sent a crack 3 man team of V50 athletes to compete in the Underwood 10k road race. The organisers actually call it the 'Underwood Run' and the headline greeting participants is, "We challenge all serious runners to enter & complete our annual '10km Road Run'". It was a challenge keenly accepted.

Now in its 25th year, the event raises money for school funds and good causes. The course is hilly and this was reflected in this year's winning time of 34m 43s. First home for LERC was Paul Burchell (aka the aptly named Hillrunner!) in 44m 17s (40th overall), which netted him 3rd V50 and a 10k Pb. Paul was closely followed by Rob Jackson in 44m 35s (48th) and 3rd home for the club was Peter Fowles in 56m 16s (141st). 202 competitors completed the race.
