Bramcote 5k and Fun Run

Despite it being Friday the 13th, the possibility of bad luck didn't stop a contingent of LERC members turning up for the annual Broxtowe 5k race, a multi terrain, rolling, hilly 5k race held within the grounds of Bramcote park (and yes, it was a 5k this time!).

With LERC making up almost 10% of the 200 strong field, it was not surprising that some top catorgary places and Pb's were gained (age categories according to the race timing company). Kathy Crockford was 1st fv50 in 27:41, while Rob Jackson was 1st mv40 and 14th overall, with a time of 20:48. Paul Burchell also made the podium in his age category, taking 2nd mv50 and 20th place in the race, with 21:19, but Sarah Priestley just missed out, still managing a highly creditable 4th lady overall.

Not everyone can finish in the top 3 of their age categories, but that didn't stop 4 LERC runners running pbs on what cannot be described as a "PB Course". Christian Wingate ran 22:11, Maria White 25:55, Nicola Greensmith 26:20 and Laura froggatt 27:41.

As ever, there was also a battle to be first home for LERC. This was keenly contested by Richard Howe and Mario Rocchelli, with Richard prevailing in 19:55 for 7th, from Mario's 20:06 for 9th place. If only there had been a first team prize, LERC would have cleaned up!

In addition to the 5k race, there was also a fun run. This is the 3rd year that the fun run has been held, although what is normally a 1k course was revamped for this Olympic year to a 2012m run.

The LERC young guns were out in force on what, like the longer race, is not a fast course. The race consisted of a slight rise on grass before looping back to the finish, although participants were rewarded for their efforts with a fantastic goodie bag containing a bottle of water, a pair of running socks, a reflective armband and a golden commemorative trainer. All 5 young LERC runners performed brilliantly and will no doubt be giving their parents a run for their money over longer courses in years to come: -

Harry Harrison 8:50 (11th)
Seth White 10:46 (35th)
Sam Froggatt 11:46 (49th)
Ellis Cowlishaw 11:48s (50th)
Eva Harrison 12:23 (56th)
