Booth Decorators Cross Country League Race 5

The impending end of the cross country season, a longer drive time than usual, terrible weather and a clash with another (subsequently cancelled) race, meant a fairly low turn out for the final Booth Decorator's league fixture at Holmebrook Valley, near Chesterfield.

Eight hardy souls made the trip and, given that this was the first time the course had been used, were rewarded with course best performances. Mark Boot has been “Mr Consistent” in this league all season and was again first home LERC, placing 13th. Rob Fox was next to finish (26th), followed by three more men who showed great commitment to the cause: Mark Lay (30th), Pete Webb (32nd) and Dave Boot (35th). Mark and Peter have enjoyed a few close battles this season and this was no different, despite the ice. Skipper Shaun Burton (72nd) and Steph Catelain (95th) completed the team.

As has been the case at a few of the Booth fixtures this year, the women's team was somewhat depleted, mainly due to the clash with the Stamford 30k. Cath Benson was the exception and was rewarded with 85th overall and 17th woman (5th V40).

The end of the season also meant that final standings were decided. Mark Boot finished in overall 10th, a reward for his consistency. Pete Webb and Mark Lay, often inseparable in the results, were also close overall, with Pete finishing in 17th and Mark in 18th. In the V45 category, Dave Boot was 2nd, Shaun Burton 9th and Stephan Catelain 10th, While Rob Fox and Alan Maplethorpe were 2nd and 3rd respectively of the V50s. Pete Fowles took 2nd V65, while Cath Benson was rewarded for her trip to Chesterfield with an overall V40 3rd place.
