North Mids Cross Country Fixture - Sat 12 Nov.
The second fixture in the North Midlands cross country league took place at West Glebe Park, Corby on Saturday 12th November. After a low club turnout for the 1st fixture at Markeaton Park in Derby, team hopes are non-existent, but individually, both Rod and Sarah Harris wanted to build on their great performances against extremely good opposition.
With the venue a significant journey away, and clashes with the Seagrave Wolds Challenge, and also a Booth’s cross country race, and the Roaches Fell race the following day, another low turn-out was guaranteed. In the event, three more guys turned up so we had a men’s team, myself, Dave Boot, Mark Lay who was “passing by”, and a welcome return to club colours by Richard Ford in his first race since 2004.
Sarah looked very comfortable and maintained her overall top lady spot, coming 2nd, and Rod ran superbly into 8th, adding to his 10th place at Derby. He is now 5th in the overall table after the two races.
Having not originally intended to run, I finished in 56th, Dave was 93rd, and Mark 108th in good conditions on an undulating and twisting course. Unfortunately, Richard was unable to complete the last lap, and reflected that he may have been wiser to have chosen the following day’s Booth’s race for his long-awaited comeback. Anyway, great to see you back and running Rich.
The men’s senior team now lie in 8th place after two races, with the third at RAF Cranwell on Dec 3rd.
