International Selections

The 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon takes place on Sunday 16th October and, having been selected to represent England, Long Eaton’s Sarah Harris will be toeing the start line. The Toronto Waterfront will be Sarah’s third marathon of 2011, and follows on from victories at Edinburgh in May, which gained her selection, and at the Robin Hood marathon last month. Sarah will be aiming for a strong performance in a world class field and will also be competing in the team event, where England face stiff competition from hosts Canada, Japan, Spain and the USA. Everyone at LERC wishes Sarah the very best of luck.

Live results from the marathon can be found here on race day: http://www.sportstats.ca/.

Meanwhile, 2011 has also been a good year so far for Club Secretary Rob Fox, featuring as it has V50 and team Gold at the Midland Masters 10k, an appearance for Derbyshire at the Intercounties Cross Country Championships and a Silver medal at the British Masters 10000m track championships, and it might yet get even better. Rob has been notified that he is currently 3rd reserve for the England V50 team to compete at the British and Irish International Cross Country event at Glasgow, on 26th November. In self-deprecating fashion, Rob commented that his status as reserve had the potential to be “another notch on the bedstead of my ‘nearly made it’ running career”. Without wanting to wish ill on other runners, hopefully Rob can complete 2011 with what would be a richly deserved international appearance.
