13th and 14th August 2011
What a Busy weekend!
The 13th and 14th of August 2011 was a busy one for Long Eaton Running Club as The Club was organising the Run section of the Triathlons (kids race on the 13th and adults race on Sunday) and Mile fun run also on the Saturday, Rob Fox’s Organisational skill along with members of the Club who Volunteered meant that all races went without a hitch. Also on the Saturday it was Vicky Beaumonts(Now Parker) wedding Day and she looked Stunning in her lovely Dress and she could not stop smiling even in to the wee small hours of Sunday Morning. Congratulations Vicky and Sam!
On Sunday 14th Long Eaton Members attended no Less that 3 Races with the Hermitage 10k, Newark Half Marathon and The Grimsthorpe Half marathon competing for runners. Damian Cowlishaw decided to go to Leicestershire and do the 10k and was rewarded with a new CB for this really tough undulating 6.21 miles and a time of 49:20.
An Hours drive was all it took to get to Grimsthorpe Castle and a Half Marathon Trail run and even though points in the internal League were on Offer just 3 members took part, the route was a really nice route but tough in parts with some uneven underfoot conditions, some road and some gravel paths to contend with along with some sharpe inclines but the views were fantastic, the route was well marked out and marshalled, and all the finishers were rewarded with a T shirt and a medal along with well needed Bananas at the finish just infront of the Castle. Rod Harris was the performance on the day of any Long Eaton runner racing anywhere on the Sunday as he was 100 meters ahead after the 1st ¼ mile and never let the lead go and finished approx 15 mins ahead of the runner in second place. It was him against the course and set a time of 1:17 for his 1st place. Maria White also had a good day with a new PB knocking of 12 mins from her previous best on what was a harder course to finish in 2:07 with both her Children and Husband to cheer her on at the end. Shaun Burton collecting 149 points for his 2nd Long eaton Finisher position took 1:53 for the 13.1 miles, he was quite pleased as he had done some hard speed work the morning before.
Newark Half Marathon, as per usual was quite warm with 8 LERCERs having a go, Paul Lewis back to racing after a bit of a lay off was 1st Back for Long Eaton 16th place and 1:18:47, the ever improving Girvan Wright was 30th in 1:22:26 with a fine PB, two Mins Later was Andy Peat with a good 1:24:27. The course which routes round various housing areas of Newark and has a down hill section at about 12 miles and is flat for approx the last mile also saw Marathon Training Al Maplethorpe and injury free Mario Rochelli taking part Mario was a little ahead of Al, Mario was 1:32:59 and Alan just 36 secs later. Pete Fowles now in his Mid Sixties was next back, Peter who is running really well at the moment was 340th in 1:47:30 just under and minute ahead of Duncan Gedge who was 374th. The Most eventful race was had by Sarah Harris who finished 3rd lady in a time of 1:21:23 but by six miles had to have a lie down and and had an impromptu massage by a man and wife as her legs were cramping up, and a bit further down the road ambulance guys and marshals also were called upon for their massaging skills. As Sarah is a sports massagest she was impressed by all the treatment she got, so that Sarah could get on her way again.
