First for Captain Shaun

The Bamford fell race proved to be a first for Shaun burton of LERC because since his first race in 1987 (Leicester Half Marathon) he finished in last place. Running only his 2nd Fell race Shaun decided to run the Last race in the Tour of Derwent Valley race at Rowsley and then run the Fell Race at Bamford and as usual follow his usual pattern of not looking at the course map but follow the person in front in the race. The girl in front took a wrong turn and therefore Shaun also took the same route. Shaun and the female Tottley AC runner were in the woods for quite a time, ran 1.5 miles further than everyone else and finshed 10 mins behind the 3rd from last runner. Everyone from Long Eaton thought that Shaun was Chasing the Totty from Tottley! At the correct end of the field Al Maplethorpe took the honors to be 1st back for the Club in 34th place just 10 secs and 2 places better off than Phil Abbott, who like Shaun Had ran The Race at Rowsley just 2 Hours before.Paul Burchell in his first Fell race was 75th and Bill Sheppard ran the 4.5 miles in 52 mins and 102nd . Pete Sturgess took just over 1 hour. Two Ladies ran with Cath Rowe 1st back with 51:27 and Rachel Woollard running in road shoes slip sliding to a fine 55:27 in her first ever fell race
