The Four Inns Weekend
4 Long Eaton teams took part in the annual 4 Inns race which covers 42 miles, 7800ft over 6 monster hills and 2 bog filled moors. First back were Phil Abbott, Alan Maplethorpe and Rob Jackson as team 'Missing Stella Already' in 8hrs 37.
'Bit far for a pub crawl' consisting of Andy Colegate, Phil Thompson, Eddie Mathieson and Lee Carnelley finished in 10hrs 49.
'The Long Eaton Running Club First Team' of Phil Sugdon, Bill Sheppard and Mark Harrison finished in 11hrs 7. This team was initially a 4 with Damian Cowlishaw as the extra member but with Vicky Yeomans spending the night before the run getting intimate with the porcelain having contracted a nasty bug Damian stepped up and offered to spend the day with the ladies.
So, along with their new found 'chick', the Foxy Fell Chicks of Sarah Crannage and Debbie Coleman completed the run in 11hrs 11 and in doing so collected the trophy for 1st novice team. Not content with being the fastest group back where no member had previously completed the run they also managed to be the 3rd fastest mixed team on the day.
The evening was spent celebrating in Buxton with beer, whiskey and kebabs where the final trophy was awarded. For the last 5 years the fastest LERC team back has been awarded the Lata de Riego Trophy. Rob Jackson made history for being the first person to have claimed the prize with 2 different teams and will shortly have his name engraved on it a sixth time. Phil and Alan were just grateful to get it the once having both failed twice before to pick up the unusually designed prize.
With 42 miles, a belly of beer and kebabs the troops finally retired to a school hall to crash down before the morning's impromptu trumping competition which looked a 2 horse race between 2 LERCers before a random individual stole the prize with a 12 second 4 note fart at the last minute. It must be all those gels.......
All runners would like to thank those non-runners who supported on the course - the remaining Colemans, Monica fee and Jodie Smith – cheers guys.
