Booth National Cross Country Championships.
With other distractions of hen nights, London Marathon and Four Inns training and possible the lateness of the date (27th March), Long Eaton managed to muster the min of 10 runners (7 Men and 3 Women) to take part in this well organised event. The weather was good and a very Hilly but dry course greeted the 6 teams who took part. Two noteable ascents and some very tree populated areas made the route a very enjoyable one to race even though the denseness of the trees made it seem that at times the runnerd were running side ways to make their way through.
Although LERC finshed in fifth place out of six in their first outing at the nationals the individual runners of the club did well, the team included 2 new members with Julie Capill in her first outing for Long Eaton and Wendy Ray in only her 2nd doing well, Carrie Fretwell whose Fiance is a professional magician, thought the course was magic and swapped her night shift so she could compete. On the mens side Andy Peat finished 9th , managing to hold off Rob Fox 11th, with Mark Boot only 3 places further Back. Marks dad ,Dave was next back in 20th just pipping Tim Doyle on the line. Alan Maplethorpe finished 35th and Last for LERC was Captain Shaun Burton who was 59th.
Hopefully this event will be staged next year as it was a good one with good organisation and a very good if very hard Cross Country course.
