Shepshed 7

7 mile races are few so Shepshed Running Club’s traffic free race on tracks and paths attracts large numbers and good race times with this year’s winner, Mark Powell of Wigston Phoenix running Club, clocking 37:17. Ian Chant 12th 42:28 and Phil Abbott 20th 43:43 recorded pb’s followed by Kieran McKeever 30th 44:24 and were Long Eaton’s first 3 men. Shaun Burton 164th 53:06 and Duncan Gedge 233rd 55:24 completed the gents. Sharon Orridge was well placed again as 2nd lady and 18th with 43:31, Carol Prokopyszyn 227th 55:11 and a pb and Carrie Fretwell 397th 63:57 made up the racing ladies.

Braunstone Park 5 km

Shaun Burton made the weekly trip for the free weekly race and came away with a course best of 21:30 and 12th place.

Cross country

The 55th Dovedale Dash had one of its biggest entries for years with 1477 starters taking on this 4 ¾ mile cross country race that starts just below Thorpe cloud summit with a helter skelter rush down a narrow valley then an icy plunge across the river Dove to tackle muddy fields and then the steep return climb to the start. Stuart Bond of Dark Peak Fell Runners repeated his 2005 victory after 3 second places in 2007 – 9 with a stunning 26:26 almost 3 and half minutes faster than his first win. Long Eaton runners and their times and places are hard to come by but Andy Dickenson seems unhindered with his hip replacement finishing 66th in about 34 minutes. Other Long Eaton runners were Eddie Mathieson, Dave Clough, Phil Walters and Pete Sturgess.

Fell

The fierce competition for 2nd place V50 in the clubs fell league continued with a trip to the hills of north Wales and the village of Cilcain at the foot of Moel Famau it being the highest and final summit of the race. At 10 miles and 3000 feet, local knowledge was an asset to the race leaders although good weather assisted all the competitors despite the underfoot conditions heavy with recent deluges. The race was the final event in the Welsh Fell Runners Association Open and also the North Wales Series and attracted a larger than usual field of fell racers. Cath Rowe showed the gents the way with 2:15:41 for 160th place with Colin Bostock 2:37:11 165th and Bill Sheppard 2:42:24 167th.

Road

LARA Derby 5 Km
