Race results summary 21st July to 24th July
In a quiet week with results from a solitary race, six runners took on the Lake District’s 4.5 mile 2500 feet out and back Lingmell Dash fell race raising funds for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue. After fine early morning conditions, the clouds descended and windy rain squalls moved up the Wasdale Valley. Rob Fox led on the steep climb pulling away from Andrei Vais and Dicky Wilkinson. Lingmell veterans Colin Bostock and Sean Gauton followed, with Rob Easter making his Lakeland fell debut coming to grips with the relentless climb in deteriorating conditions. First to the summit was Dicky Wilkinson with Fox and Vais 20s behind. At the summit turn visibility fell to 30m and strong wind and rain hampered navigation with some of the lead runners off line and even descending into the wrong side valley. The wet rock and grass made running back down a tentative affair and was reflected in slow times:
10th Dicky Wilkinson 62:18 1st V50
20th Andrei Vais 75:06
25th Rob Fox 80:36 3rd V50
26th Colin Bostock 80:37
28th Sean Gauton 87:03
32nd Rob Easter 93:00
Rob Easter turned an ankle in the final stages but gamely completed and vowed to return next year.
A bottle of beer for all finishers courtesy of the Great Gable brewery completed the annual trip north with the prospect of a Mountain Rescue fund raising event with music, auctions and demonstrations next year.
