Tara Kinder 10K
Good weather and a flat course made for quick times at the recent 10k held in the Elvaston Castle Grounds. The course was approximately 2 laps and for the 13 Lercers who took part it was another good showing. Dave Harper, out of hospital from food poisioning and various other health issues, came down and supported. He witnessed Sarah Harris win another race for the Ladies in just over 37 mins and 6th overall, despite falling at the first gate and cutting open her knee! Dan "Jacko" Jackson set a new life time best, after being advised not to wear a watch/Garmin for a change. He knocked over 3 and a half minutes off his previous best for 10k. Needless to say Dan was well chuffed with his performance, despite having left a "pavement pizza" ,just after he crossed the finish line.
Anthony Carbutt also set a new PB(41:01). Martin Rafferty, who like Dave, is recovering from illness set a new personal best of 45:25. Bob Crockford set a new personal best which was well under the hour mark, but he was not quick enough to beat his wife, who finished in 57:00. Rachael Hemsley completed the course under the hour mark, this being her third race in preparation for a half marathon later in the year. Both Vicky Yeomans and Natalie Teece are on the comeback trail and both set decent times for the course, having both had lay offs from running. Making up the rest of the contingent was new member Graham Corsham who set 47:27, Rich McKie, who despite feeling strong at the end and setting a seasons best, was a little dissapointed with his time, and heavyweights Mark Harrison (who was happy with 45:38) and Captain Shaun Burton who used the race as a training run and paced one of his customers around the course in 48:03, even managing a sprint at the end for a change!
Great race, well organised and great atmosphere!
