The fourth race in the Notts road race summer league at Worksop combines quiet lanes for fast running with a short woodland trail for its 4.9 miles from Worksop college. Leading the men home was Rod Harris with 26:23 for 5th place. Full club results below:

Long Eaton�s Vet men had a depleted team with Ed Murden injured and John Birch working so a special mention to Tim Doyle for hanging on and completing having pulled up injured 4 miles into the race; Long Eaton finishing 3rd on the night and relinquishing their lead in the team championship to the power of the Mansfield squad. With the final race in these Nottinghamshire road running championships in August held at Teversall park, key overall positions are:

At the Colin Potter 10K Cath Rowe claimed 1st V45 with 46:00 in 81st with Phil Abbott first man back in 39:49. Club results below:

In the off road trail race on an out and back course along the shoreline of Carsington, the 5 miles of the 4th Booth�s Decorators summer league proved to be demanding once again with its undulating route and cold, rainy conditions. Rod Harris was 3rd 28:40, Rob Fox 11th 1st V50 30:03, Ian Chant 15th 30:56, another great run for junior Mark Tilling 20th in 31:17, John Birch 3rd V50 29th 32:02 and lead lady was Monica Fee with 36:55 in 95th. Cath Benson was 1st V40 lady 119th 38:12 and Cath Rowe 2nd V50 104th 37:18, Pete Fowles was 3rd V60 man 176th 43:02. With a final race to go and scoring based on at least 4 out of 5 races to count, Cath Benson has won the ladies V40 with four straight wins, Rob Fox lies equal 1st V50, Cath Rowe V50 and Geoff Foulston V65 are both around 2nd / 3rd position (hard to calculate exactly!) and John Birch 4th V50. Fell

Dicky Wilkinson completed his 3rd superlong race in the Lakeland classics championships with the 21 mile 9000 foot Wasdale fell race. In strong winds, heavy rain and visibility down to 10m on the summits, of the 167 starters 46 dropped out such were the difficult conditions. Wilkinson finished 50th in 5:53:29 for 5th V50.

Matlock AC put on the Black Rocks fell race from Cromford rugby club with a run along the canal then up the steep incline of the High Peak Trail to the summit trig then a fast descent back through the woods, back on the incline and a final sprint in back along the canal. In slippery conditions and drizzle during the race John Birch ran well for 2nd V50 43:23 12th, Dicky Wilkinson 45:23, Colin Bostock 53:32 and Carole Birch 62:27.

Extreme

Phil Wallis and Jon Hammond completed their Gobi Desert adventure over 6 gruelling days in extremes of heat and cold, deserts and rocks for Phil to finish 4th and Jon 9th. Well done gents and an adventure that'll stay with you forever. ( A fuller report to follow)
