Another Busy Weekend for LERC
Race results summary for the weekend 20/21st March 2010.
Excellent weather conditions on the first day of spring saw many Long Eaton Running Club athletes donning their trainers and contesting a number of races.
At the 4.3 mile 600 foot Wirksworth Incline fell race, were the Birch’s, Carol and John, running for Wirksworth Running Club in their local race, and Damian Cowlishaw in a rare outing over the hills. John was 17th in 29m 59s and 3rd V50; Carol 111th and 42m 12s; and Damian in 35m 57s for 68th.
The regular fell running quartet of Colin Bostock, Phil Walters, Phil Abbott and Dicky Wilkinson took on the 21 mile 4500 foot Edale Skyline. This classic long fell race has big climbs and descents, wonderful technical gritstone edge running and arduous peat filled moorland tracts. Stunning views on the day with kindly underfoot conditions allowed Phil and Colin to consolidate their Four Inns training with 4h 59m; Phil Walters running for Dark Peak Fell Runners ran a fine 4h 40m with a troublesome hip; and Dicky Wilkinson also for Dark Peak with Grindleford Gallop and Wolf’s Pit races in his legs, battled cramp to finish 52nd in 3h 37m and 2nd V50 in his Edale debut.
In the undulating Retford Half Marathon, Jackie Mather ran a superb pb to finish 115th in 1h 40m 0s (where did that extra second come from!) and a slimmed-down mens’ captain, Shaun Burton, achieved his best road half marathon since the Robin Hood 2004 with 1h 38m 18s for 99th. The continuing progression shown by these two runners is an example to all the club of what dedicated and disciplined training can produce.
A big well done to Leeann Thompson in her debut race for Long Eaton with 1h 5m in the Lincoln 10K.
At the big road race in the Midlands over the weekend, the Ashby 20 miles, the club were represented by 12 runners. Ed Murden in his debut road race for the club ran a pb of 2h 5m 59s to finish a cracking 10th place and 2nd V40. The men finished in second place narrowly missing top spot in the team event to Beaumont Leys with Ed, Ian Chant 32nd in a superb pb 2h 12m 22s and Paul Clarke 88th in 2h 24m 44s. Personal bests on the day also went to Mark Harrison knocking 16m off his 20 mile time to break 3 hours with 2h 47m 08s in 386th place; Catherine Rowe 2h 50m 42s 377th ; and Nicola Bennett 3h 1m 39s 509th . Well done to all LERCers at Ashby including also:
