Huncote hash

Diabolically low temperatures greeted 7 hardy Long Eaton runners at the annual Huncote Hash. The Hash is a return to old school racing. Turn up. Pay a token fee then race with like minded individuals.

This year saw a Beast of a new course for the Hash which avoided the claggy mud and sand dunes of the old quarry of previous years in favour of a longer run along the top of the embankments beside the new excavations.

However the Devil of a climb up to the top of Croft hill (420ft) remained and many of the runners were cursing Lucifer at it's continued inclusion in the race.

The changes did mean more time was spent running fast along vistas with excellent views across south Leicester.

Dicky Wilkinson was 1st back for the club. Apparently selling his soul to Satan has paid off as yet again he was 1st M50 coming in 20th overall in 46 minutes. Next back was Phil Abbott in 49 minutes.

The 3 way tussle of Darren Pyefinch, Damien Cowlishaw and Colin Bostock finished in that order with only a minute separating the runners. Colin's decision to try a run across the stream instead of up it like everyone else cost him as Damien closed up valuable distance in the closing mile.

Carol and Chris Prokopyszyn completed the LERC entourage.

All competitors, many in fancy dress, then retired to the leisure centre for the laid on soup and rolls. A superb way to top off a hard winter run. Not bad for £3.

Oh, in case you were wondering about the many Dark Prince references - Damien, by pure chance, ended up with race number 666.
