QHC and Southwell 10K
On 27th and 28th of December Long Eaton were well represented at 2 races, the Queens Head Canter and the Southwell 10K.
Unfortunatly due to the freezing cold weather the 10k was correctly called off just before the race was due to start. The organisers waited another 15mins to see if the icy roads would melt a bit more but with 3 people falling over on their warm up run it was decided to abandon the race to avoid many injuries.
Instead the 7 Lercers decided to run across fields for a 4 mile run with the pink leggings of Cath Kindred a shining light to lead the way. The fields lead back on to the original course and 1 hour after the scheduled start the roads were still very icy confirming the decesion to cancel was the correct one. Everyone still got their T-shirts and will no doubt enter next year.
The day before at Belper the 5k Queen's Head Canter took place over an undulating, out and back course. 8 current members and 1 member to be entered and completed the route, with Rob Fox running his 1st race as a V50 and finishing in 5th place and 1st Long Eaton. Next was Phil Abbott (12th) returning from Christmas with his relatives, John Birch was 19th in 19:56, follwed by Darren Pyefinch on his debut in the race who was just 4 secs ahead of Captain Shaun Burton who completed the race in 22:05. Damian Cowlishaw and Colin Bostock also ran quicker than the same race in 2008, Jaik Pickford comming back from injury set just over 23 mins. The only LERC lady running was Carole birch who set a new CB of 28:46 which was 3 mins quicker than she had run before.
