North Mids XC race 2 and Heanor Xmas Pudding 10k
The Weather was foul with the Rain Bouncing off the road and the Wind trying its best to blow everything away including the course and the 110 mile round trip did not help attracting runners to the 2nd race in the North Mids Cross Country held at Corby, with only 5 confirmed runners from Long Eaton and one of those was the only Long Eaton Lady it looked like no points would be scored for the team as 5 runners are required for the mens team and 3 for a ladies but with only 10 mins to go a light Appeared on the horizon in the Shape of Bob Warburton to complete the 5 men required to count, Bob kindley Agreed to help his club out and run (he was only there to see his son Chris run(Chris come 2nd by the way)) Captain Shaun Burton, Rob Fox, Rod Harris and Dicky Wilkinson all thanks bob for competeing it got even better when the Weather improved just before the Start and Mario Rochelli turned up to race. The 3 Laps were suprisingly not too boggy and after the race when the points were totaled up Long Eaton had done really well to finish in 7th place on the day with Rod in 15th place overall. Although there was only one Lady running Rods wife ,Sarah Harris ran fantastically well for only be back to running for six weeks and finished 4th in the race. Brilliant.
The Ladies were center Stage the day after the race at Corby with a fine 1st place in the team race at the Heanor Xmas Pud 10K Race at Shipley Park on Sunday 15th Nov. Sharon Orridge (2nd Lady) Monica Fee and Cath Rowe made up the 3 counters for the ladies team Prize. 25 other Members of the club also ran with Rob Fox doing his 2nd race in two days the best placed of the Long eatoners in 22nd place with a new course best time , the undulating Course with a nasty little climb at the end of the race held no fear for the White and Blue of Long Eaton as there were 7 course bests set,4 new PBs with Martin Way 1st time under 40 Minutes, 5 Debuts in the race and 1 1st race ever for Chris Prokopyszyn who did the gentlemanly thing and let his wife cross the line first! In keeping with the Mr and Mrs competing in events together to go along with Sarah and Rod Harris at Corby, Jon and Louise Hughes ran in this one with Jon getting a new Course best and Louise beating the hour with a fine 58:37. Well done Long Eaton especially you debut people and with a big turn out of 11 ladies it looks like many more team prizes may be going to the Ladies. Also well done to those who raced twice in 2 days both at Seagrave Wolds race and the Corby Cross Country.
