First and one hundredth
A Busy weekend for Long Eaton Running Club started on Saturday the 10th October with the first race in Cross Country Season at Markeaton Park in Derby in the North Midlands Cross Country League. It was Rich Wilkinsons 100th race of the year and far from being tired with his new "short" hair cut went on to finish in 87th place and with 2 and half months to the end of the year possibly may be in the 130s. Well Done Rich. There was a Mr and Mrs affair with Rod(14th) and Sarah Harris (8th) back racing for Long Eaton and as if they havent been away for a couple of years were 1st back for the club in the mens and ladies races. Welcome Back Guys.
The Mens race was over 3 laps and approx 5.9 miles, making their first appearances on the cross country scene were Chris Wood, Matt Salt and the ever improving Andy Willescroft all competing well. Captain Shaun Burton in good for for him, Knocked over a minute from last years time and Rich Wilkinson better known as Dicky set a PB for the distance.
The 5 Ladies who took part in the 3.8 mile race over the same course saw all 5 in the top 50 with Sarah Harris, Monica Fee (20th) and Cath Benson (32nd) counting in the ladies Team and after the 1st race of 4 lie in 3rd Place, backing up the top 3 LERC ladies were Natalie Teece(nee Fryer) in 35th who had a battle with Cath all the way round, and Ladies Captain Caroline Waterhouse in 49th.

Overall the Positions of the team is as Follows
Ladies lie 3rd with 60 points after the first race in 2008 they were in 11th!
Senior Men lie in 6th with 295 and were in 13th this time last year.
Vet Men are 13th with 421 and 17th 12 month ago.
Its Looking good for the White and Blue of Long Eaton, The 2nd race in the series is at Corby on the 14th of November.
