Blacamoor Fell Race
Very dry conditions underfoot and hot and humid for the race. Another one of those races where the first climb goes on and on as the river of sweat and the burn in the lungs and calves taunt you into giving up and walking. It takes a while for the legs to unwind on the flat moorland section but you start flying again through the top woods. A technical descent down an ankle turning gulley then the path braodens and quickens to the stream crossing and final long climb up through more woods. A short descent then a cruel steep climb on part of the outward route leads to the welcome long descending finish to Totley cricket club.
Tired from one or two races I thought I'd put the Romanian well back but on the last climb a quick glance around and there he was 50m behind and it took some effort to put distance between us - Mr Vhis is becoming a stronger fell machine knocking nearly 6 minutes off his course best. Good to see Clive back on the fell scene again and his lively and colourful description of the race as he crossed the line. And Kev Holland getting the benefit of London training gaining a best time by seconds and getting valuable preparation in for the Lingmell Dash where he confidently predicts that he'll be able to run all the way to the wall stile!
It was Dicky Wilkinson's 50th Race of the year. Well done rich.
