Belvoir Half Marathon
A good turn out for the 25th running of The Belvoir Half Marathon on Easter Sunday saw 14 Runners from Long Eaton taking part, 13 of whom finished in good times with an unfortunate hamstring Injury to Seam Matthews at 2 miles curtailing his race. The other 13 were not unlucky as 6 new PBs were set a massive new course best by 14 Minutes by Duncan Gedge and good times by other members of the Club.
Both club Captains took part with Caroline Waterhouse after Painting late in to the evening the night before and also preparing for the race with a mixture of Lemsip and Chocolate set a new best of 1:41:11, just ahead of a fast finishing Cath Rowe who also had a new best by 3 mins in 1:41:23. PBs were also set on the mens side with Paddy Fitzgerald 1:24:31 and Jon Crannage 1:24:34 breaking new ground. New PBs were also set by Bill Shepard 1:44:33 who was inspired by catching and passing Captain Shaun Burton with only 20 yards to go, Mark Goodson also finished the 13.1 miles with a new best of 1:33:43. Shaun Burton set 1:44:41 which he was pleased with, as it was his fastest for a year, 7 minutes quicker than his previous 1/2 at Nottingham and as he had not run past 9 miles in the previous 6 months and also had had knee problems recently finished the race with a smile on his face. Andy Colegate had a brilliant run and was first back for the club in 11th place in a time of 1:20:27, Paul Gillingwater in his yearly trip to Hose for the 1/2 was also pleased with his 1:36. Jackie Mather and Debbie Coleman with 1:44:56 and 1:59:07 respectivly completed the Long Eaton Ladies Contigent. Long Eatons mens team came 3rd overall in the mens team competition which was 3 places better than last year.
