Busy weekend for Long Eaton Runners
Four different races were attended by LERC Runners with the most high profile being the Intercounties XC Champs which also acted as a qualifier for the worlds being held at Woolaton Park on Saturday 7th March, 2 runners qualifed to take part and each aquitted themslves well with Mark Boot running in the u17 mens race and finishing the 3.73 mile course in 23.46 and 206th. Mark has qualified to run in these champs for each of the last 3 years. Paul Lewis running faster than ever had twice the distance to run in the mens race and finished well in 170th place in a time of 42.51.
Chris Bradley and Lucy Wright (in Training for the London Marathon) both set new PB's in the Milton Keynes Half Marathon, with the concrete cows looking, on Chris set 1:47 and Lucy 2:18 well done guys.
Two 10k's were on Sunday, Fradley and Rushcliffe. At Fradley brother and sister Sarah and Jon Crannage kept in the the family and both set PB's Sarah 44:53 and Jon 37:37 and new best by 2 minutes. In the same race Sharon Orridge continues her fine form with first place in the ladies race in 37.01. Colin Bostock set a good time of 44:47, Matt Ratliff running his 1st race for a long time was 52:34 with Jackie Mather back from injury setting 46:03 not bad in the strong wind and cold rain.
The wind was also a factor in the rushcliffe 10k with 800 runners taking part over the 2 lap mainly flat course, the sun was out at the start of the race but by the end the freezing rain was falling on to the brave runners still racing. Damien Cowlishaw has the best performance with a new PB of 43:46 a full 3 minutes off his previous best and finished 80th, Chris Robson injury free had a good race and set 43:33 and 76th. Long eaton had a good race overall with 12 runners with 6 of those in the top 100. The only problem the race had was the finishing funnell with people having to queue up to cross the finishing line perhaps this will be sorted for next year but overall the race was a good one.
