On 15th February 2009, the air still filled with romance, 14 Long Eaton runners prepared to start the 18.64-mile course. Although there was an absence of snow, it was windy which made the course tough going in places. As always it was a very well organised event, with the marshals providing lots of welcome encouragement to the runners.

Despite this everyone put in a top effort and new course bests were set by Paul Lewis (1:49:10) who was first home for the club, Sharon Orridge who won the women’s race (2:01:09), Mark Goodson (2:24:39), Phil Thompson (2:24:41) and Caroline Waterhouse (2:28:16). Jon Crannage set a new personal best time of 2:06:55.

The women’s team made up of Sharon, Natalie Fryer (2:26:34) and Caroline took home the team prize.

Patrick Fitzgerald completed the course in 2:10:48, closely followed by Clive Allison in 2:14:46. Martin Way finished in 2:23:23, with Rob Easter finishing in 2:32:35, Colin Bostock finishing in 2:34:23 and Catherine Rowe finished in 2:45:16. Bill Sheppard finished in 2:48:32.
