Booth Decorators XC race 4 (West Hallam,Ilkeston)
Quagmire was the only word to describe the conditions over this 4.8 mile XC with 9/10 of the course covered with mud or water with the rest Tarmac or shale, it made a stark contrast to the Cross Country Race at wollaton Park the day before with only one puddle to contend with. Skating rather than running would be a better description in some parts of the course. The 11 LERC runners battled the conditions Bravley with Cath Benson only having road Shoes to skid about the course on, she did well finishing 113th, Caroline Waterhouse (Aptly named for this course with all the rain the previous night) was 83rd in 40:00 unfortunatly LERC could not field a 3rd lady to make up the team and so a score of 139 was added to the total score(139 was the last position + 1). Nine men ran through the boggy Conditions and Junior Member Mark Boot ploughed his way to 12th place(32:18) 4 places better than Rob Fox(32:37) who is 34 years Marks Senior. Rich Wilkinson who now sports a splendid beard and looks 10 years younger was 27th(34:16) and 3rd back for the Club despite his broken toe. With only 1 race left in the series its a close thing in the standings with LERC in a good position to finish 3rd overall.
