Leicester Half Marathon

On 19th October 2008 4 Long Eaton runners ran the Leicester Half Marathon, which followed a new route this year, mainly on closed city streets and parks, whilst the full marathon also took in some of the Leicestershire countryside. From the start all runners were together for nearly 6 miles then the full marathon runners broke off to do a 13.1-mile “Marathon Loop” before rejoining the half marathon route. The weather was perfect and an early start and immediate downhill stretch helped to bed in a steady pace. Generally the course was very flat although there was a steady 2 mile incline to the finish, which separated the men from the boys!

Martin Tilling was first home for the club, finishing in 1:36:31. Richard Syson set a new personal best time, crossing the finish line in 1:51:33. Richard McKie finished under the all important two hour mark, with a time of 1:59:12 and Ian Williams completed the course in 2:04:26.
