BDXC1 Shipley Park

Sixteen LERC runners lined up for the start of the first Booth Decorators Cross Country race of the season, the first time Long Eaton had raced in this league. This 4.2 mile 2 lap race in Shipley Park took in woodland and parkland, and thanks to recent fair weather wasn't too wet or muddy although runners still moaned about the undulating nature of the course.

Mark Boot continued his fine form by finishing first for the club, and 11th overall in 27:15. Gaz Watson was close behind in 18th and it was nice to see Andy Dickenson out in Long Eaton colours again after a long spell of injury finishing 20th. Paddy Fitzgerald was next in 36th being closely tracked by Phil "I'm taking it easy" Abbott in 38th with Alan Maplethorpe (58th) and Chris Robson (86th) completing the top 7 who counted for the men's team.
For the ladies Caroline Waterhouse was first home for the club in 121st position with Sarah Crannage making a rare appearance at a cross country event and performing well, finishing in 129th place. Unfortunately with no 3rd counter the ladies team will go away from Shipley Park with a significant deficit to claw back over the next 4 races.
