Previously On the Fells
On 26th August 2008 two Long Eaton runners competed in the Eyam Fell race, a 6 mile course with 1000ft of ascent. Richard Wilkinson completed the course in a time of 48:07 finishing 26th overall. Colin Bostock finished in 105th position, with a time of 57:57.
On 30th August 2008 5 of the regular Long Eaton fell runners took part in the Longshaw Sheepdog Trials Fell race, a 5.5 mile course with 650 feet of ascent. Rich Wilkinson was first home for the club in a time of 49:07, finishing 19th overall. Glen Coleman was close behind him, finishing in 31st position with a time of 50:49. Phil Walters completed the course in 58:05, with Colin Bostock finishing in 59:35. Sean Gauton finished in a time of 1:02:36.
On 5th September 2008 there was a great turnout from the club at the Great Longstone Chase fell race, a 4.8 mile course with 950 ft of climb. A race not for the faint hearted. Glen Coleman finished first for the club, in a time of 33:48, finishing 11th overall. Rich Wilkinson finished in 34:23 in 16th position. Andy Dickenson finished in 36:07, closely followed by Andrei Vais who finished in a time of 36:28. Phil Walters completed the course in 37:46, with Colin Bostock finishing in 41:00. Pete Sturgess completed the course in 51:27.
On 6th September 2008 David Denton’s Chevin Fell race took place. This 3 mile fell race was completed by 4 Long Eaton runners. John Birch finished in 6th position and 1st M40 with a time of 21:41. Colin Bostock was next home for the club in a time of 25:35, finishing 17th overall. Ian Wallis, returning from a long period of injury, finished in 31:21 and 30th overall. Representing the ladies was Carole Birch who finished in 31st position and 1st F45 with a time of 32:06.
On 7th September 2008 Colin Bostock competed in his third consecutive race in as many days, the Totley exterminator, an AL fell race. The course involved 4050ft of ascent over 16 miles. There was a great turnout from the club. Rich Wilkinson was first home for the club, finishing 18th overall in a time of 2:36:55. Glen Coleman was next home in a time of 2:45:50 in 29th place. Andrei Vais completed the course in 2:52:16, finishing in 46th place. Colin Bostock finished in a time of 3:28:16, followed closely by Phil Walters with a time of 3:30:09. Jon Vardy and Pete Sturgess battled together around the course, with Jon finishing 2 seconds ahead of Pete, in a time of 3:35:21. Tony Vardy finished in a time of 3:41:35, with Sean Gauton finishing in 3:49:44.
