Abbott finishes Second in Championships

On 24th August 2008 David Denton’s Bradbourne fell race was the venue for the English Junior Fell Running Championships. Willow Abbott and Andy Abbott, both in the Under 8’s category, represented Long Eaton Running Club. The course they had to tackle was 1020 yards in length and involved a grassy, slippery hill climb and a water splash. Willow made light work of the water splash, battling her way in front of another female competitor. She crossed the finish line in 2nd place in a time of 7:16. Andy Abbott was impressive up the hill and finished 5th in a time of 6:03.

The senior runners tackled a two-lap course over 5 miles with 844ft of climb. The course, with its water splash, slippery climbs and fast descents made for a great race. John Birch was first home for the club, finishing in 13th place overall with a time of 38:35. Phil Abbott finished 21st in 39:51. Phil Walters finished in 43:08, followed closely by Colin Bostock who finished in 44:54. Vicky Yeomans completed the course in 47:53, with Carol Birch crossing the line in 53:59.
