Another week on the Fells

Milford Chevin Fell Race

On Thursday 7th August 2008 four Long Eaton runners competed in David Denton’s Milford Chevin Fell race, a 4.5 mile course in Derbyshire. John Birch was first home for the club, finishing 3rd overall and 1st V40, with a time of 31:34. Ian Adkin was next home for the club, finishing in a course best time of 33:16 in 6th position overall. Duncan Gedge made his debut, finishing in a time of 38:43 and in 21st position. Representing the ladies, Carol Birch finished in 44:42 in 37th position.


Ricky’s Fell Race

On Thursday 7th August 2008 8 Long Eaton runners competed in Ricky’s Race, a 4.5 mile fell race with 600ft of ascent. All started well, until a mile or so in, when the front pack of runners took a wrong turning; some added only a hundred metres to their race, some added half a mile before they realised they had gone wrong. This added to the excitement and competition. Phil Abbott led for the club, until the final descent when Rich Wilkinson overtook him and sprinted home in a time of 34:16, finishing 8th overall. Phil finished in a new course best time of 34:32 in 13th place. Nick Stevens completed the course in 39:57, finishing one place ahead of Andrei Vais. Andrei finished in 40:39. Phil Walters finished in 41:21, just pipping Colin Bostock to the finish. Colin finished in a time of 41:24. Jon Vardy finished in a time of 42:05, with Vicky Yeomans finishing in 44:15. Pete Sturgess completed the course in 46:08.


Gladstone 9

On Saturday 9th August 2008 four Long Eaton runners made the trip to Wales to compete in the Gladstone fell race, a 9 mile course with 2890 feet of ascent. The weather on the day was good, although underfoot it was very soggy. Rich Wilkinson finished in 16th position overall and 3rd vet with a time of 1:30:54. Phil Walters finished next for the club in 1:48. Colin Bostock finished just ahead of Sean Gauton in a time of 2:04:11, with Sean finishing in 2:04:40.
