Lingmell Dash Fell Race
On Saturday 26th July 2008 7 Long Eaton runners competed in the Lingmell Dash fell race, which is 4.5 miles long with 2500 feet of ascent. The race is in its sixth year of raising funds for the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. 42 runners lined up at the Wasdale Head Inn and they set off across the valley floor. After half a mile, the lung bursting climb to the summit began and soon spread the field out, with Lloyd Taggart of Dark Peak pulling away from his team mates. Lloyd turned at the summit first and maintained his comfortable lead to finish in 46:14 – 38 seconds outside last years record.
Rich Wilkinson was first home for the club in 1:06:16, finishing 21st overall. Andrei Vais finished in 1:09:09 and 25th overall. Phil Walters finished in 26th place with a time of 1:12:10. Rob Fox, making his debut on the fells, finished in 1:17:41 in 31st place. Colin Bostock finished in 32nd place with a time of 1:18:43. Also making his debut was Rob Smith, who finished 36th in 1:21:32. Sean Gauton finished 38th with a time of 1:24:41.
All the runners received a bottle of 'Trail Ale'. The organisers gave a special thank you to the clubs of Long Eaton and Preston who between them supplied 14 of the field and have been regular supporters of the race over the past couple of years
