Heritage Race 1
Tuesday 24th June 2008 saw the first Heritage Race take place at Holme Pierrepont, a 10k race along a flat course over two laps, and what a night it was for Long Eaton Running Club.
Weather conditions were a little warm and the course was windy in places but that did not stop 16 club members setting either new personal best or course best times. Paul Lewis finished 2nd overall, setting a new personal best time of 33:23 and collecting a County Gold in the 10k County Championships. The club had three male finishers in the top 10. Paul was closely followed by Andy Colegate, who finished 4th overall in 34:45. Andy also achieved a new personal best time. Rob Fox finished 9th overall, in a new personal best time of 35:47.
Not to be outdone by the men, the club had three female finishers in the top 20.
Cath Kindred set a new personal best time of 41:27, finishing 6th overall. Vicky Yeomans set a new course best of 44:11, finishing 12th overall and newcomer Natalie Fryer finished 18th overall in 45:02. Catherine Rowe won a County Bronze in the 10k County Championships, setting a new personal best time of 45:54, finishing 21st overall.
In all 31 men and 14 women represented the club, with personal bests being set by Gareth Watson (37:46), Phil Abbott (38:31), Mark Goodson (46:09), Jackie Mather (48:50) and Geoff Foulston (49:04). New course bests were set by John Birch (37:06), Ian Chant (37:35), John Hay (44:08), Mark Harrison (46:47) and Pete Sturgess (55:57).
There were 283 male finishers and 185 female finishers. The next race in the series takes place at Wollaton Park on Thursday 26th June 2008.
