Breedon on the hill trail race
On Saturday 21st June 2008 four Long Eaton runners competed in the Breedon on the hill trail race, a 4 mile course. Rain stopped for the start of this race, which started at the quarry. With a mass dash for the steep climb up a gravel path which was over grown making it single file only, and then passed the church at the top, where a wedding was taking place, it was down the steep zig zaggy road to the golf course, still heading down into the village of Wilson.
The course then went through a cornfield to the old railway track, looping around towards the finish, with a sting in the tail in the last half mile - a climb over another cornfield, with tired legs and into the finish. Paul Burchell was first home for the club and 37th overall, finishing in 28:16. Duncan Gedge finished 57th with a time of 30:19. Kathy Crockford finished 129th in 39:33, followed by Bob Crockford who completed the course in 42:45, finishing 136th overall. 175 runners finished the race.
