Tour of Derwent Valley Series
The first race in the series took place on 23rd May 2008 in Duffield. 13 Long Eaton runners competed in the 4.45 mile race. Andy Colegate was first home for the club, finishing 3rd overall in a new course best time. Phil Abbott and Jon Hughes also set new course best times. Vicky Yeomans set a new course best time, finishing 5th lady overall. The second race was the following day in Wirksworth. 14 Long Eaton runners competed. Andy Colegate again set a new course best time over the 4.2 mile road and trail race, finishing 4th overall. New course best times were also set by John Birch who finished 13th overall, Jon Hughes, Damien Cowlishaw and Vicky Yeomans.
The third race was in Milford on 25th May 2008 with runners completing a 5 mile course with the first 3 miles uphill and the last 2 being downhill. 11 Long Eaton runners competed, with Andy Colegate first home for the club, finishing 4th overall. John Birch finished 10th, with Vicky Yeomans finishing in a new course best time and 7th lady overall.
The fourth race in Rowsley was by far the hardest of the series. Despite being only 4 miles in distance, there was a very steep climb for the first 2 miles and then a very steep fast descent to the finish. 10 Long Eaton runners competed, with Andy Colegate again being the first home for the club, finishing 6th overall. John Birch finished 12th overall. Damien Cowlishaw set a new course best, with Vicky Yeomans finishing 9th lady and Carol Birch finishing 16th lady overall.
9 Long Eaton runners completed the entire series of 4 races. Andy Colegate finished 2nd overall, completing all four races in a time of 1:44:07. John Birch finished 6th overall and 1st M45 with a time of 1:50:42. Vicky Yeomans finished 37th overall and 5th lady in 2:14:45. Phil Thompson, taking part in the series for the first time finished 27th in 2:09:06. Andy Bradley finished 31st overall in 2:10:42. Duncan Gedge finished 39th with a time of 2:17:28. Colin Bostock finished 40th in a time of 2:17:57 with Shaun Burton finishing 44th in a time of 2:20:08. Carol Birch finished 60th overall and 11th lady in 2:41:22. A great weekend of races and lots of great individual performances.
