It's been a busy couple of weeks
Triple Race weekend
On Friday 16th May 2008 Andrei Vais competed in the May Queen Fell race - a 3 mile race with 700 feet of ascent. He finished in a new course best time of 25:17, finishing 21st out of 74 finishers. On Saturday 17th May 2008 Andrei competed in the Mount Famine fell race, a 5 mile race with 1700 feet of ascent. He finished in another course best time of 58:10, finishing 51st out of around 134 finishers. Finally on Sunday 18th May 2008 Andrei competed in the Lantern Pike Dash, a 1.2 mile race with 630 feet ascent. He finished in another course best time of 14:24, finishing 13th out of 33 runners. 18 runners completed all 3 races and Andrei finished 4th senior male and 10th overall. His prize was a refreshing bottle of beer.
Totley Moor Fell Race
On Tuesday 20th May 2008 five Long Eaton Runners competed in the Totley Moor Fell Race, a 5.5 mile course with 1100 feet of climb. Andy Dickinson was first home for the club, finishing 24th overall and 6th V40, in a time of 38:13. Ian Adkin finished 32nd overall and 10th V40 in a time of 38:53. Andrei Vais finished 70th overall and 40th Senior Male in 42:11, followed by Colin Bostock who finished 181st overall and 23rd V50 in a time of 50:38. Pete Sturgess was forced to retire. 206 runners finished.
Isle of Jura Fell Race
On Saturday 24th May 2008 Phil Walters took on the challenge of the Isle of Jura fell race. The course is 27.8k with 2800m of climb. It is one of the toughest fell races in the country. The mountain terrain crossed by the race is potentially dangerous. Phil completed the course in 5:22:23 finishing 127th overall. There were 173 finishers.
Edinburgh Marathon 2008
On Sunday 25th May 2008 two Long Eaton runners competed in the Edinburgh Marathon. The marathon offers runners the ultimate personal challenge with a spectacularly scenic route, which takes runners past many of Edinburgh's famous landmarks and tourist attractions. Sharon Orridge completed the course in a time of 3:04:21 finishing 204th overall and 3rd V40 lady. Barbara Bostock finished in 5:28:00.
Bamford Sheepdog Trial Fell race
On Monday 26th May 2008 father and son, Tony and Jon Vardy of Long Eaton Running Club competed in the Bamford Sheepdog trial fell race which is a 4.5 mile course involving 1000 feet of climb. Despite windy conditions Tony finished 74th overall in 48:10, yet despite his experience on the fells, he was unable to beat his son, who is new to the fells. Jon finished in a time of 47:41 in 73rd position.
