Burbage Skyline

On Tuesday 13th May 2008 11 Long Eaton runners took to the Fells and tackled the Burbage Skyline Fell race. The course is 5.75 miles, taking in 1200 feet of ascent. More popular than ever before, the first mile was a little overcrowded but the runners soon got into their stride. There was a great turnout by the club. Taking “fell” running literally, Glen Coleman managed to fall in the finishing tunnel and knock himself out. When he came to, his first words were “have I finished?” Indeed he had, he was first home for the club, finishing in 31st place with a time of 44:29. Andy Dickinson was next home for the club in 58th place in 46:43, followed by Richard Wilkinson who finished in 60th place in 46:45. Andrei Vais and Phil Abbott battled each other around the course, but on this occasion Phil mistimed his sprint finish and was unable to catch Andrei over the last mile. Andrei finished 16 seconds ahead of Phil in 91st place with a time of 49:12. Phil finished in 97th place with a time of 49:28. Both Andrei and Phil set new course bests. Rob Jackson finished in a time of 50:19, with Adrian Keen finishing in 53:46. Phil Walters finished in 57:02 for Dark Peak Fell running club. Sean Gauton finished in exactly an hour, with Jonathan Vardy putting in a great performance to finish 20 seconds behind Sean. Tony Vardy completed the course in 1:02:10. Shaun Burton chose this as his debut fell race and finished in a respectable 1:02:29. Pete Sturgess finished in 1:02:30, with Vicky Yeomans finishing in 1:03:32, which was a new, course best. 271 runners completed the race.
