The Andys take Aston by storm
On Sunday 18th May 2008 five Long Eaton runners took on the Aston 10k race, but not before one of the soon-to-be junior member’s of the club and a rising star at that, took on the Aston fun run.
Andy Abbott aged 7 took on the Aston Fun run, billed as a two mile course, but was in fact 2.35 miles. It was a multi terrain course, on road and trail with a finish across a playing field. Andy, unlike his dad, Phil, smiled the whole way round, even managing an average pace of 6:30s over the last 0.3 mile, spurred on by the LERC crowd. He finished 41st out of a field of 95 runners, in a new course best time of 23:44.
With the standard set the remaining Long Eaton runners tackled the 10k course, which was a change from previous years. The course again was multi terrain, with sections through woodlands, and along the canal. Andy Colegate led from the off, finishing well clear of the rest of the field in 36:21. Patrick Fitzgerald finished 10th in 41:01. Shaun Burton and Vicky Yeomans battled against each other, with Shaun taking the lead on the finishing straight to finish just ahead of Vicky in 31st place with a time of 46:88. Vicky finished in 33rd place in 46:44 and as 2nd lady. Duncan Gedge completed the course in 43rd place in a time of 48:38. 121 runners completed the course, which was in fact over distance, clocked at 6:39 miles.
