Hinckley Half Marathon
On Sunday 11th May 2008 six courageous Long Eaton runners took on the challenge of the Hinckley Half Marathon, despite temperatures soaring to nearly 80 degrees. Not only did the heat make for a tough race, but also the course itself was by no means flat. Crossing the finish line became the primary goal, as opposed to chasing a particular finishing time.
Andy McNeill was first home for the club, finishing 6th overall in a time of 1:18:05. Phil Abbott was next home for the club, finishing 47th in a time of 1:28:28, closely followed by the only female representative for the club, Sharon Orridge, who finished in 61st place with a time of 1:29:36. Paul Burchell completed the course in 1:47:20 in 250th place. Damien Cowlishaw finished in 441st place in 2:00:27, with Shaun Burton finishing in 2:09:07 in 563rd place.
Hinckley Running Club had their work cut out with a few runners collapsing from the heat, as did the medical staff of St Johns. Praise must go to the Hinckley Running Club and the medical services for their work and well done to all the runners who finished the race in such tough weather conditions.
