Abbott leads the men home

The 2008 National Cross Country Championships sponsored by Saucony were held at Alton Towers, Staffordshire on Saturday 23rd February. Phil Abbott was first home for the club. Despite being half way through a grueling marathon training schedule, Phil dug deep to pull off a brilliant performance, leading the men home in a time of 45:15. He finished 731st out of 1244 finishers.

The Senior Men had to complete a distance of 6.22 miles, over three laps. The course was undulating, and included one very challenging hill. The conditions were good on the day.
T Humphries of Cannock & Stafford AC won the Senior Men’s race in a time of 32:03.

Also representing the club was Graham Whitt who finished in 827th place in a time of 46:38. Andrei Vais, who managed to arrive at the start line with only two minutes to spare, finished in a time of 47:33 and 880th overall. Phil Walters finished 998th overall in 49:48, with Colin Bostock finishing in 51:41 and 1082nd overall.

Daniel Clorley of Luton AC won the Under 17 Men’s Race in a time of 14:39. Mark Boot representing Long Eaton, put in a very strong performance to complete the 2.8 mile course in 16:56, finishing 151st out of 291 finishers.

Liz Yelling of Bedford & County AC won the Senior Women’s Race in a time of 23:44.
Vicky Yeomans representing Long Eaton, completed the 4.26 mile course (two laps) in 33:45, finishing 294th out of 495 finishers.
