EMXC 4 Colwick Woods

It was a very cold, sunny, crisp, morning. 14 Lercers turned out to race and finally that old age cross-country question was answered on the start line just before the claxon went off – why do the women only race half the distance the men do? One “brave” male runner risked his life to address the issue…”so they can get back to cook the dinner”….
Unfortunately that runner sustained injuries, which prevented him from taking part in the race!

The men’s race was 2 laps of the course and 5.2 miles in distance.
Andy Colegate had run to the start of the race, as had Mario Rocchelli, who arrived with just two minutes to spare. Mark Goodson chose Colwick XC as his debut XC and fortunately the recent cold, dry weather had made the ground firm, which enabled Mark to get round the course successfully in his ROAD shoes.

Paul Lewis took a tumble during the race, as did Gareth Watson but this didn’t prevent them from putting stunning performances in. Paul finished in 7th position overall in 34:52, followed by Alan Seamer in 9th position in 35:45. Andy Colegate finished 15th in 36:00. Gareth finished 22nd in 38:43, followed by Alan Maplethorpe in 25th position in a time of 39:12. Jaik Pickford finished in 27th position in 39:25 followed closely by Phil Abbott in 30th position in 40:22. Mario failed in his attempt to beat Phil this year, after Phil beat Mario last year on the final stretch. Mario completed the course in 41:36 and 37th position. John Hay finished in 48th position in a time of 43:51. Damien Cowlishaw finished in 47:20 and 57th position, closely followed by Chris Robson in 47:34 and 58th position. Mark finished in 70th position in 50:06, followed immediately by Stuart Bell in 50:32 and 71st position.

The women’s race was 1 lap of the course and 2.9 miles in distance. Vicky Yeomans was the only female representative of the club finishing in 16th position overall in 24:06.
