Charnwood Hills Fell Race
On Sunday 13 Long Eaton runners competed in the Charnwood Hills fell race. With a different race start than normal at Anstey and an extended loop around the furthest point, Beacon Hill, the distance was clocked at 13.7 miles, a mile more than its usual length.
In addition, there was a biting wind and an inherent chill factor that took its heaviest toll on the second half of the race to the finish. The course was also nice and muddy in parts. Vicky Yeomans managed to lose a shoe in one of the boggy parts of the course, retrieving her shoe, only to realise that the lace had completely broken and she was going to have to run the last 4 miles or so with a “flip-flop” style fell shoe!!! Phil Abbott also lost a shoe to one of the muddy bogs!
Rod Harris was first home for the club and 4th overall in a time of 1:27:10. Glen Coleman completed the course in 1:41:10, followed by Alan Mablethorpe in 1:48:57. Phil Abbott finished in 1:51:38, followed by Phil Walters in a time of 1:54:55. John Hay completed the course in 1:58:14, followed by Ashok Patel in 2:00:58 and Colin Bostock in 2:01:04. Damien Cowlishaw finished in 2:08:05, closely followed by Vicky Yeomans in 2:09:05. Shaun Burton finished in 2:12:40, followed by Ian Wallis in 2:15:33 and Richard McKie in 2:22:11.
Special Congratulations to Phil Abbott who has now represented the club in 150 races, which is a stunning achievement!!!!!! Well done !!!!!! (Colin watch out, Phil's catching you up!)
