1st East Midlands Cross Country

With other races clashing and races the previous day it was 11 Long Eaton men who represented the club in the 1st race of the East Midlands Cross Country League on Sunday 11th November 2007. The weather was chilly but bright and with the lack of rain in recent weeks the going was firm. The runners’ shoes were still clean for a change after completing the race!

The race was 2 laps for the men and 1 lap for the women, with Andy Colgate sparkling and brushing the course aside to finish 6th. Wiley Rob Fox was 26th, Mario Rochelli 38th, Jason Rawlings 40th and the ever improving Phil Thompson, in his 1st cross country race, ran in road shoes and still finished 56th. Adrian Keen finished 51st with John Hay finishing in 65th. With a combined 60 years membership at the Club between them, Shaun Burton (Mens Captain) finished 73rd, Chris Robson competing in his 1st race for LERC in 18 months was 81st, Ian Wallis 83rd and Pete Thorburn finished 97th. A special mention goes to the vests of Chris and Peter – the fading colours just managed to pass the definition of “club colours”.
