Worksop Half Marathon

On Sunday it was the running of the 26th Worksop Half Marathon. It’s not called the `Scenic One' for nothing! Starting from Worksop Town Centre, the course immediately leads out towards the National Trusts’ Clumber Park. A gently undulating course, that is surprisingly good for PB's given that the last mile or so is down hill.

There was a great turn out by Long Eaton Running club. The Saturday morning Striders team were out in force and the weather didn’t dampen spirits. First home for the club was Andy Colegate in a time of 1:18:30, followed by Sean Matthews in a time of 1:22:40. Sean was closely followed by Ian Chant in a time of 1:23:05. Paul Lewis completed the course in 1:26:32. Patrick Fitzgerald was next home for the club in 1:30:30. Monica Fee was first lady in for the club in a time of 1:34:11. She finished 14th lady overall. John Hay finished in a PB time of 1:38:15, followed by Colin Bostock in a time of 1:39:06. Duncan Gedge put in another great performance and earned a PB, completing the course in a time of 1:42:26. Catherine Rowe came home in a time of 1:49:11, followed by Bill Sheppard in 1:50:18 and Chris Bradley in 1:52:23. Richard McKie finished in 1:56:33, Kate Edmonds in 1:57:20 and Steve Craner, completing his first half marathon for the club, came home in 2:00:28. Barbara Bostock finished in 2:13:12. Caroline Waterhouse and Sarah Crannage also started the course, but unfortunately Sarah was taken ill during the race and had to be transported back to Race HQ by ambulance. Special mention has to go to Caroline who suspended her potential PB attempt to help Sarah and to accompany her back to HQ. Sarah is well on the way to making a full recovery.
