An unusually quiet weekend for the club
On Sunday two LERC runners decided to take to the fells, whilst another two decided to go international!
Colin Bostock and Damien Cowlishaw took part in the Windgather fell race. A 13.5-mile course with 2500 feet of climbs which started in Burbage. What started as a foggy day soon cleared up for the 11am start and glorious sunshine soon bathed the 150 or so runners. The course went along the Goyt Valley, up to the Windgather rocks and across the Tors to Shining Tor, before returning to the start/finish area at the Burbage centre.
Colin was first home for the club in 109th place with a time of 2:22:47, not bad for his debut at this race. Damien came home in 120th place in a time of 2: 27: 59, knocking 21 minutes off last year’s inaugural race time.
John Birch took part in the 32nd ING Amsterdam Marathon. With its many highlights, the route through Amsterdam’s city centre takes in the Olympic Stadium, built in 1928, the nature reserves on both sides of the river Amstel, the Maritime Museum, the historic canals, Rijksmuseum and the attractive Vondelpark, which features twice during the marathon. On the flat and fast course John finished in a time of 3:08:38. Carol Birch competed in the Amsterdam half marathon, completing the course in a time of 2:04:10. Well done to all four runners!
