The Boys show what they're made of
On Saturday 13th October 2007 three LERC men made the trip to Kettering to take part in Race One of the North Midlands Cross Country Series. It was a six-mile course. Jason Rawlings completed it in 40:26 minutes, followed by Phil Abbott who finished in 43:28 minutes. Colin Bostock completed the race in 45:02 minutes.
Not content with a cross-country race, both Phil Abbott and Colin Bostock completed the Leicester Half Marathon on Sunday 14th October in times of 1:29:28 and 1:37:05 respectively. Paul Lewis came home first for the club in a time of 1:19:06 and a stunning 11th place overall! Mario Rocchelli completed the course in 1:31:37, setting a new PB. Next home was Martin Tilling in a time of 1:33:10. Shaun Burton finished the course in 1:43:09. Apparently undertaking too much housework on Saturday hampered Shaun’s performance!!!!! With so much sport on the television yesterday how did he find time for housework??? Phil Thompson completed the course in 1:43:47.
This year's Leicester half marathon began and ended at Victoria Park, Leicester and went along mainly closed roads through the city along walkways and a small section of towpath. Despite the claims that the route was mainly flat, the downhill start meant that the last mile was uphill It was a twisty course, with a steep climb at 8 miles and cobbles at the 11 mile point, making it quite tough and certainly not as easy as claimed beforehand by the race organisers.
Also over the weekend, Damien Cowlishaw completed the Waltham Winder 10 mile off road race in a time of 1:40, finishing 15th overall! Ian Williams completed the Cardiff Half marathon in a new PB time of 1:47:20.
Congratulations to all the boys, you did the club proud!
