300 fell for Colin
Colin Bostock ran his 300th race for Long Eaton running Club at the recent Coniston 6 mile fell race rising to 2400 feet during the race Colin finished 68th in 1:29:23 with Phil Walters ahead of him in 1:22:31 and Sean Gauton in 75th place 17 mins behind Colin.
The 303rd race of Colin's Long Eaton career was the Notts 5 mile race at the Victoria Embankment Starting at the Toll Bridge public House. The race, moved from its usual Friday date, is pancake flat with 2.5 laps but the price on the night and the move of night affected the entry from Long Eaton with only 12 members running. Nevertheless there were good runs from Brione Abbott who set yet another PB of 43.51, Caroline Waterhouse collecting a 150 point haul for Club league standing.
Catherine Rowe and a good vein of form finished 8 seconds later in 37:00 with Dawn Shillingford a further 54 seconds back. Lynn Andrews made up the ladies team with an approx time of 41 mins. Paul Lewis was first back for the men in 28:38, Ian Chant set 30:31 and Stuart Bates in 32:50 recorded a 1,2,3 for the senior men. This is quite unusual as there are at least one male over 40 in the first 3 home for Long Eaton we done you youngsters.Martin Tilling , Colin Bostock, Shaun Burton and Mark Goodson also completed the race.
Meanwhile in the slightly hiller 4.4 mile, 2400ft Langwell fell race, British fell running Champion, Rob Jebb romped to victory in a new record time held in Cumbria, but Long Eaton claimed most of the prizes. Dicky Wilkinson was 1st vet45 and 4th overall in 57:12, hotly pursued by Andei Vhis in 9th, Phil Walters (10th) claimed the 1st Vet 40 prize, Colin Bostock was 20th, Sean Gauton 21st and an excellent top 25 position Kev Holland finishing in 22nd. The course allowed the strength of the Long Eaton runners come to the fore and give a memorable team victory against the likes of Bingley Harriers, Ambleside AC and Cumbria Fell Runners. The team secured a luxury prize at the Wasdale Head Inn Brewery and resturant.
