Wild and wet at Wollaton
Saturday saw 7 Long Eaton runners brave the wet and wild conditions to complete the Wollaton Park 10k hosted by Bluecoats Technology School.
Although advertised as a run around Wollaton park's footpaths the vast majority of the 2 5km laps were off path and with the preceding days rains parts of the course, which would normally be rock-hard, had deteriorated into a squelchy quagmire more frequently seen on a wintery cross-country course.
Despite the inclement weather the LERCers performed admirably with Sharon Orridge claiming 1st place in the ladies race with a time of just 37:55. Next back for Long Eaton was Phil Abbott who despite clonking his head on a low branch on the first lap set a new PB, albeit only by 2 seconds, to cross the line in 41:39. Phil, showing his looks do not reflect his intelligence, ducked on the second lap.
Darren Hill and John Hay were the next 2 runners back in 45:52 and 46:59 respectively which meant John only just missed out on a new pb himself.
Brian Jobe and Robin Shirtcliffe crossed the line less than 40 seconds apart with Brian just holding off the late challenge from Robin along the final field. The 2 men finished in 50:21 and 51:05.
The second lady back for Long Eaton was Suzanne Newman who ran a near perfectly paced race clocking just 11 seconds over her target time of 65 minutes.
